Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations 2007

The Energy Performance of Building Regulations 2007 came into force over the period April 2007 to October 2008. If you fall into the categories below you must act now.

The objective is to promote the improvement of the energy performance of buildings.

The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) Regulations 2007.

Here is a brief synopsis.

The primary objectives of the regulations are:-

1.   To produce Energy Performance Certificates (EPC’s) for Buildings.

2.   To Display Energy Certificates (DEC’s), including a numeric indicator.

3.   To undertake an inspection of Air Conditioning systems.

The deadlines set within the above regulations are as follows:-

a)   EPC’s are required for the sale or rent of buildings over 500 square meters from the 6th April 2008.

b)   DEC’s are required on all public buildings over 1,000 square meters from 6th April 2008.

c)   EPC’s required on all buildings for sale or rent from 1st October 2008.

d) First inspection of Air Conditioning systems over 250kW must have been completed by 4th January 2009.

e) First inspection of Air Conditioning systems over 12kW must have been competed by 4th January 2011.

The above requirements are enforceable by the Weights and Measures Authorities.
